Many of you with IBD will be surprised to hear the true cause of your diarrhea and “urgency”. Contrary to common belief, this is not caused by “germs” – such as a “bug” or by anything that you can “catch”. This is the prevailing thought within the medical community whose thought process is still dominated by the “Germ Theory of Disease” – which states that many if not most “dis-eases”, particularly the ones that they haven’t figured out yet, are caused by some unknown pathogen = blame it on the germ & bomb it with ant-biotics. Which is the cause for what you are suffering from now.

The aforementioned antibiotic- most often- correctly prescribed for bacterial infections has the bad side effect of also killing off the good bacteria that protects your GI tract. When in place- this “mucosal lining” protects the tender tissue from your own stomach acids. These acids- along with digesting your foods- then “digest” and inflame the tissue -skin-fat & muscle that comprises your colon/intestines wall. This is the cause of your diarrhea. The body – in it’s wisdom & attempt to protect you from this un-natural situation then dumps lots of water into your colon in order to “dilute” the stomach acid & to very rapidly move it out to minimize any damage to the colon wall. This explains the urgency that some of you have after eating.

The answer is not Imodium, or for some people not eating, which for many are attempts at dealing with the severe anxiety & fear about going out in public w/o knowing where the bathrooms are- sound familiar?
