The Role of Fiber in Digestive Health

Fiber and digestive health is a very interesting subject.

Contrary to conventional (mis) understanding its role in assisting constipation is perhaps it’s least important. It’s most important benefit is as a source of nutrition for the bacterial culture that makes up the mucosal lining–maintaining it. Subsequently the mucosal lining protects the gastrointestinal wall–preventing inflammatory diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome–colitis–Crohn’s disease.

The most common cause of constipation is a magnesium deficiency. If you do not address that 1st- the fiber is likely to just back up on you. * Rule #1- if you have any kind of inflammatory bowel disease such as IBS- Colitis- Leaky Gut ect- DO NOT TAKE ANY KIND OF BOWEL CLEANSER OF FIBER SUPPLEMENT-YOU WILL DEFINITELY MAKE YOU PROBLEM WORSE.

Probiotics and Colostrum

Many people take probiotics without realizing that it is essential to also take colostrum along with it.  Probiotics and colostrum truly go hand it hand.  This article will explain why it is so essential to take the two together.  If you are looking to relieve issues like colitis or chronic diarrhea, don’t skimp on taking the two together. The key to taking these is in knowing which ones to take for the individual & their unique needs. Taking the wrong ones can at best do nothing & at worst- make you sick. Just one example is if the person taking either one of these is lactose intolerant. Also there is often times the need to take different ones at different stages of the treatment. It can get complicated.

So what is colostrum?  This is a substance that comes directly from a mother’s breast when she is nursing her child.  This milk is also a rich source of probiotics.  The combination of the colostrum and probiotics together build a strong immune system in the baby.

The fact is that probiotics are useless without colostrum.  They will just go “in one door and out the other.”  Why spend your money on probiotics if they will just be immediately leaving your system?  The reason why colostrum is so essential is that it allows the probiotics to stick to the inner surface of the GI tissue.  This process enables the probiotics to remain permanently in your gut, instead of quickly just leaving your body.

Of course, if you take antibiotics at any point during your life, this will kill off the friendly bacteria regardless of whether you have taken it with colostrum or not.  In this case, you will need to repeat the cycle over again from the start and begin a new course of probiotics with colostrum. Different antibiotics require different probiotics to replace the specific strains that were killed off.

When you were first breastfed, this developed the mucosal lining in your body.  This lining is so powerful that it can last a person’s whole life if he or she doesn’t take antibiotics.  Of course, if you were never breastfed, you will need to take colostrum and probiotics to get this necessary ingredient into your system.  When people are fed soy formulas, they are put at a major disadvantage as far as their health is concerned.

The fact is that colostrum helps to repair a wide variety of gastrointestinal issues.   Oftentimes people take probiotics for issues like chronic diarrhea treatment or colitis cures and then are disappointed that this supplementation doesn’t work.  When that is the case, the sufferer needs to remember how essential it is to take the correct colostrum-with the correct probiotic.

How did I get IBS?

This is a question that I get during most every appointment that I have with a client. It seems to be a universal question. It is because the first person that they go to for help -their Doctor, does not know. Amazing huh? Thats right – you can’t find a gastroenterologist anywhere who knows the answer to that simple question. That is because they are not taught that in med school. The short answer as to why they don’t know is this – these inflammatory bowel diseases did not become prominent – and were almost non-existent until after WWII. Frankly- conventional medicine has just not caught up to this. This leaves 1000′s of people with no viable medical protocol to end their suffering. As a matter of fact the medical community is not aware that they are actually causing these problems.

Well, how do we get IBS & for that matter Colitis- Crohn’s – Leaky Gut ect? There is only one cause and that is the use of antibiotics. These “conditions” ( they are NOT diseases or syndromes) are not caused by poor diets- stress- germs -genetics ect. Those things can aggravate a pre-existing problem- but not cause it. Why antibiotics? What they do is “destroy” the mucosal lining in the GI tract that protects the tender tissue of your colon/intestines. This then allows your own digestive enzymes to “eat away” at this tissue – essentially creating holes in it that in turn cause pain – inflammation- diarrhea- bleeding ect. That is it- short and simple- nothing else can do this. That is why there was such a huge proliferation of Inflammatory Bowel Disease just after WWII – when antibiotics were first introduced to our culture. Think about it- did you have some antbiotics at some point before your symptoms showed up?

I do hear some wild theories that my clients get from their Doctors- sometimes bizarre things – “autoimmune system syndrome bull shit” or how about this one- “let’s give you an antidepressant – even though you are not depressed” (HUH?) – that they have the balls to throw at you. In 31 years of treating people with gastro- intestinal problems I have never seen or even heard of someone getting a  GI problem fixed from using conventional medicine– have you?
